1st of its Kind in Canada - PEX Pipe System
|
|
Pex pipe has been around a long long time, but never in a fire sprinkler system in Canada. The USA has been installing this system for several years now, but the
differences in code prevented the system for installation in Canada till recently. A new home being built in the City Of Vancouver was the setting.
|
Viega Products were used along with sprinkler heads from Reliable Automatic Sprinkler Corp. Viega provided an impressive array of technical expertise to
oversee this installation including Tom Keefe, Mark Evans and Michael Reimer. Matt Squirell provided great support from Reliable.
The owner of the home was very receptive to the new piping as he was very aware of the long standing reliability of the products and the outstanding support
given by the manufacture. The City of Vancouver welcomed the installation and viewed it as another way to effectively protect the occupants of the devastating
effects of fire. The city has had a mandatory requirement for all new buildings including single family homes to be fully sprinklered for the past 22 years.
City officials including most all of the plumbing inspectors were on hand to "inspect" the new piping method and were very pleased at what they viewed. The Western
Canada Representative from the Canadian Automatic Sprinkler Ass, Jamie McKenzie was also on hand to experience firsthand what this new piping had to offer.
Nicholson Sales/Cronkite Supply had Kevin Walker on hand to take in his aspect of the whole ordeal. Hamburgers were cooked up by Fire Busters chief Tim Killey and a great lunch was enjoyed by everyone.
Thanks to everyone who participated, it was a great installation.
