Vancouver Kitchen Fire - 2004
On September 1st 2004, Fire Busters was called to replace a sprinkler head in a house on Oliver Cr., Vancouver, B.C.. The sprinkler head had been fused as a result of a fire in the kitchen. Apparently a pot was forgotten on the burning stove and 3 members of a household went to sleep. At approx. 12.15 am on Sept. 1st fire trucks arrived and awakened the occupants.
It became quite obvious that the pot on the stove overcooked and caught on fire effectively damaging large portion of this small kitchen. However thanks to proper operation of the sprinkler system the fire was contained in this single room. Leaving behind some shaken but otherwise fine occupants of the home. It appears that given the fact that everybody was asleep, without the sprinkler system the outcome would have been different.
