A new residential subdivision with over 200 new homes will be sprinkled due to their proximity to a set of railroad tracks. The thought here is that if a train derails causing a fire to spread into the homes, the sprinklers will keep the fire to a minimum until the fire department has arrived. This is a win win situation for everyone. The developer gets approval for his subdivision and the fire department gets every home sprinklered. The real winners will of course be the home owner who should never have to experience the devastation effects of a home fire.
